Description
The Weng Zhong, a jade figure depicting a great hero from the Han Dynasty, is carved from pale white jade. The figure has a square face, a long beard reaching his chest, wears a wide robe, and clasps his hands in a gesture of respect, exuding a solemn and dignified air. A small hole at the top suggests it may have been used for hanging or as a personal ornament. In the Han Dynasty, Weng Zhong figures were often seen as symbols of loyalty, bravery, and protection, and were frequently placed in front of tombs or outside palace gates to ward off evil and bring peace. Although small in size, this jade Weng Zhong is remarkably lifelike, showcasing the exquisite craftsmanship and realistic spirit of Han Dynasty jade carving. It is an important artifact for the study of Han Dynasty jade figure carving and ritual culture.
